Bridal Shoes

My grandmother, who was born in 1911, had a favorite pair of high heels from her youth. She used to wear them when she was in her very late teens and early twenties. They were gorgeous platform shoes. Even as Little Girls we knew they were special. It was our dream to grow up and fit in them one day.

Flash forward from the 1930s to Milan Fashion week and towering platform shoes were King of the catwalk. The San Francisco Examiner said," Like many other designers, pieces were paired with towering platforms-a shoe, whether in boot or sandal form-that seems to be here (again) for the duration."

Vital Designers Love Them

Even Versace, the bell of Milan Fashion week, had them on each of their models showing their latest designs in all of its glory putting their best foot forward. From flowing long gowns, cruise wear items, to mini-dresses-the iconic platform did its magic in the presentation of the garment and the woman.

Gucci head designer, Frida Giannini, loves platform shoes.

Giannini said, "These pieces are to be worn with big, chunky platform heels for the long, leggy look"

She showed a six inch gold acrylic platform sandal. The gold platform sandal was lovely. Giannini explained the platform sandals went well with the wider pant leg of the season and were the only shoe to look good with this silhouette.

What's the Big Deal?
