Why do Asian children do better in school?

Asian children seem more focused and disciplined seem to excel U.S. children last in almost every endeavor. How?

My daugh made a class project to compare the lives of students the 6th year in Japan and in its class. She learned that students in Japan to stay longer in the classroom and play less. I do not think that American children are more creative, just lack of focus on basic studies. How to improve basic education for our children, we must consider improving our school system. I think we need to extend school hours. Some schools are what school experiecing Asia made long ago. The advantage of extended school hours will be multifold: 1) children are more structured learning time 2) parents will not have to worry about hiring after-school care, 3) teachers receive higher pay.
