Euro Size
The Vatican has signed an agreement in 2001 with the Italian state money by giving it the right to use the euro. The Vatican is an independent and Sovereign - despite its small size - so it can fight its own currency, which, under monetary agreements with the European Union, can be used legally in all countries of the eurozone.
If parts of the Vatican were legal tender and can be used to purchase common things, it is very unlikely that you will find in your portfolio back to the store! These parts are in fact issued in limited numbers - two boxes containing a copy eight euro coins - and collectors öfter do not let anyone ever take them off the machine because there is risk of damage and reduce their value. These boxes are distinguished by the quality of minting coins, the presence or absence of a silver medal and the quality of packaging:
- Set "Flower Corner", issued 85 000 copies sold 30 Euros by the shop of the Vatican. These coins are of better quality than the parts which are found in circulation, since many of them are struck with worn corners that affect the smoothness of their hits. - Set Belle test ", issued 16 000 copies, 140 Euros sold by the shop of the Vatican. A coin minted in Belle event includes coins Especially designed for collectors, usually with specially machined sidewalls. They are treated with extreme care and placed in a waterproof case immediately after their creation. The other interest group is that its packaging is more luxurious, and it contains a commemorative silver coin.
The history of the Vatican Euro is still young and not yet three different series, except for coins commemorative two-euro detailed below.
From 2001 to 2005, coins were minted bearing the likeness of John Paul II. It is estimated that there were approximately 2 500 000 coins, making them rare and sought after.
During the vacancy in 2005 by John Paul II and Benedict XVI, the coins were minted with the arms of the Cardinal Chamberlain, and acting with the words "Sede Vacante". These pieces are rare and highly sought after by collectors. From 2006, parts represent the new Pope Benedict XVI.
Since 2004, the Vatican publishes each year a commemorative 2 euro:
- 2004: 75th anniversary of the founding of the Vatican State.
- 2005: 20th World Day of Youth, held in Cologne. 100 000 pieces.
- 2006: 500 years of Swiss Guard. 100 000 pieces.
- 2007: 80 years of Benedict XVI. 100 000 pieces.
- 2008: Year of Saint Paul. 106 000 pieces.
These pieces are usually sold at a rate of approximately 14 Euros by the store and left the Vatican in general very quickly given the very small number of coins issued. These coins are legal tender and can be used to buy your bread at the grocery store, but again they are bought and sold much more than their face value, so it is unlikely that you come across.
The Vatican publishes documents annual collection of silver or gold with a face value of 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100 Euros. These parts are not legal tender and their value is purely illustrative. They are usually sold at a higher price in the shop of the Vatican, and reach even higher prices when selling the coin.
