Girl Crocs
The growing popularity of sandals and flip-flop Crocs and some highly publicized incidents, has increased awareness of injuries Indexing children in the United States. Both gear types of shoes were grouped as increased risk, but is it a real fair assessment? What is the truth about the risks involving children and escalators? An awareness enough to protect our children? Shoeshine our children focus on material escalators? Should we all take the stairs or elevator? As a physician and mother three girls, I am concerned about escalators and our children.
Letâ € ™ s look at the numbers. In the United States, there is a 35,000 escalators with approximately 245 million daily riders. The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that about 10,000 people go to the emergency room every year after accidents on the escalator and 20% of these accidents involve trapping the feet, hands or shoes. Thata € ™ s about 2000 incident involving a certain type of shoe. In contrast, very few incidents were reported, Crocs shoes. This means that given the number of emergency room visits per year for such traps, which usually involve more flexible shoes or bare feet, the fact that relatively few incidents were reported in shoes Crocs is basically insignificant. Also given the number of children wearing Crocs today it is the only reason that ultimately a trap would occur, as the Crocs are not immune to being caught by stairs, not more than thongs, jelly shoes, sandals or running shoes soft.
What put our children at risk? The fact that the stairs are dangerous small children has been well known for years. In fact, in 1997 in the Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, it was reported by a group of doctors Department of Pediatrics, New York University School of Medicine and the Pediatric Emergency Service, a € œChildren are at risk of serious injury, the escalators. Young age, inadequate adult supervision, when inappropriate activity is on the escalator escalators and related mechanical problems increase the risk of injury. Public and parent education oriented escalator security issues may contribute to reducing injuries escalator € children.â The higher incidence of injuries have been reported for involving children between 2 and 4 years old (50%), the average age being 6 years. It should also be noted that 60% of children fell before their accident.
The action of walking out of the escalator is associated with an increased risk of injury. Young children may remain standing on the escalator and allow their feet to slide to the end, instead of walking completely extinguished. The small size of the foot of a child may increase the risk to slip into the ditch, where the last step slides into the comb plate. While an escalator landing a job may seem simple and natural for a adult development level of young children limit their ability to plan and coordinate this effort. In addition to feet becoming entrapped in the process to step off, the ends of small children, may be lodged between two phases or between one step and the side-rail.
We can continue climbing stairs with our children if we follow some simple safety tips from the Consumer Product Safety Commission:
1. Shoelaces bulk of drawstrings, scarves and mittens can remain trapped. Make sure a child € ™ s clothing does not at risk.
2. Always keep children € ™ s hands, like crossing the street!
3. Do not allow children to sit or play on the steps.
4. Do not carry children in strollers, walkers, or carts. Use the elevator.
5. Always face forward and hold the handrail. If you fall, you put your child at risk risen!
6. Avoid the edges of steps where entrapment can occur.
7. Always be aware and alert while traveling with your children, where the note is emergency stop.
Prevention of escalator injuries to key and efforts should be focused in two directions. Safety education for parents should understand and give specific guidance injury prevention by the conduct of the escalators. Increased surveillance of parents should be encouraged, such as hand-holding or carrying, even young children while riding and especially while stepping off escalators. Children should be taught not to run, play, or sit while mounted on an escalator. Children should forward and hold the handrail.
Ultimately Injury indexing is that no matter what type of children's shoes is, if parents do not monitor, injuries can occur. There is no correlation between specific shoes and injuries, they occur even in the best cases usually due to inattention and children € ™ s behavior dangerous. Parents must be diligent about watching their children and following the guidelines to provide safe conduct for all children in escalators.
