Kids Red

There are always times when there are a group of kids getting restless. Sometimes it is after dinner with a group of families and the adults want to visit, waiting for a bus or who knows what.

One time we were at a boy scout "camp out" at Moody gardens in Galveston. We had to wait an hour to get into the facility. I alone kept 30 boys occupied for 30 minutes with this.

I always start off saying this is "Un-winnable Red Light Green Light" and that rarely does any body beat me.

The rules are the same, it is just a matter of how you say it. When I say "Green Light" you run, when I say 'Red light" you stop. Here are my few twist:

"Green Lime" sounds a lot like "Green Light"

Usually someone stops in an uncomfortable position (e.g. standing on one leg). This usually calls for an extra long pause until they fall.

When some stops and is close to winning, stack some chairs around them so they cannot just move straight.

Walk up to a kid, put a finger inch away from them and start the "I'm not touching you" chant.

Dialogue - start talking and though in the phrase "green light". Example - "You kids need to understand the rules, the game of green light red lime is very simple blah blah blah." See what kid is paying attention. Usually one kid runs over to the finish lie by themselves.

Dramatic pause - combine this with dialogue. "That lettuce is green. ....... Light is bright today."

The kids eat it up the harder you get on them. It starts to become a challenge for them to try and beat me. Good luck to them.
