If you have a closet full of clothes that you would like to sell, consider using an online auction site or consignment store to sell them to interested consumers. Online auction sites will sell your used clothes to the highest bidder and will require you to ship the items to the Buyer, often charging a small fee to list and sell the item. Online consignment shops will allow you to post your clothing for sale on their site and will require a commission when the item is sold, generally a percentage of the item's sale price. There is an old saying, "A picture is worth 1000 words". The picture of the clothing that you have listed for sale is your first opportunity to make an impression with the Buyer. Taking a good picture is an important element to getting your used clothing items sold. Natural lighting is important if possible when taking the picture and you will want to make sure that the clothes are taken against a neutral backdrop. Your goal is to have the quality and colors of the clothing POP for the online viewer. Use a digital camera to take a picture to upload to the picture to the online website. Next, you will want to choose a powerful title or people will not choose your listing when they are browsing.
Here are a few topics and acronyms to consider when writing your title:
- NWT (New with tags)
- NWOT (New without tags)
- Like New
- Great Condition
- Note the gender (Boy's, Girl's, Men's, Women's)
- Note the Brand (Gap, Old Navy, Ralph Lauren, etc,)
- Type of Clothing (pants, shirts, skirts, clothing)
- The Size of the Clothing (S, M, L, XL)
When choosing your title, consider browsing for other similar items that are for sale and through previous items that have sold to generate effective title ideas.
Now that you have a title and have taken a quality picture, you will want to write your item description. Be as descriptive as possible when you are writing the description. Include a full description of the size since international sizes can vary. Also be sure to note an accurate description of the condition of the clothing. Your Buyer will not appreciate if you left out something that is important such as a stain, tear or missing button when they receive the item, if it was not in the listed description. Also be sure to describe the fabric color and type since it is almost impossible to tell what the clothing is made of from a picture. You may even want to use the description from the clothing's tag, being sure to note whether the item is washable or dry clean only.
Once you have completed your preparation to list the item, you will need to choose a price. Take into consideration the original cost of the item, its current condition and items that are similar on the website. You are now ready to list your used clothing item for sale.
