Have you ever watched one of those television programs that show the fabulous fishing available in Canada (or also known as the "Great White North) and wonders, can this really be true? The fish can actually be so great? Perhaps the scenery so spectacular?

It's true!

From the eastern shore of the Maritime Provinces to the wooded tract of coastline on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada offers fishing is so abundant and wild that fishermen from around the world visit each year, then subsequently return year after year.

All fishing provide the provinces that are unique to them, but all are linked by a common theme, and only the huge almost to explore the lakes and rivers in the north.

Great Bear Lake is 500 miles north of Yellowknife and the permanent road the closest is 300 miles away? Nearly 12,500 square miles of crystal clear water is under ice for all but perhaps 100 days a year. Water so cold, the fish grow so slowly they can be 60-80 years.

Then consider this.

There is only one community on the lake. Perhaps 500 people, tops! Four fishing lodges, more than 280 miles from the lake between one and one closer! Ice free Only a few months these fishing lodges that can operate only 2 months a year. The total capacity among all may be 160 fishermen at a time, over 12,500 square miles scattered!

Also, consider Great Slave Lake. Located some 300 miles south of Great Bear Lake Great Slave Lake is almost as large a body of water, almost as isolated, but has the advantage of a bustling frontier city type, located on its banks. Yellowknife, the capital of the territory is also the "hub" of a large number of remote northern lakes and fishing camps, as it is served by a modern airport with frequent flights and daily scheduled linking to towns further south, or as the northerners call "outside"
