Place Size
To make a mat instead of standard size, how many pre-cut 4 "squares of quilting fabric that I need?
I am New Quilter. I want to make a mat standard size of a square (with Nine Patch Design). The fabric I use is pre-cut into 4 "squares. How many squares I need for each place mat?
I am a little confused as to whether you want to use the 4 "square that you have whole pieces in the 9 patch blocks, or if you want to cut them into small squares to use as exhibits in the 9 patch blocks. If you used the 4 "square also as it is (9) Documents required for a 9-patch block if you really want to have room for a 9-block patch in your place mat with a little rest room for a border, perhaps! (... Each block of 9-patch is close to 10.5 inches "from 3.5" x 3 = 10.5). But I do not think that's what you want. ... If you want to do this if you can enlarge it by adding more blocks (or blocks probably biased Just cut to size needed) to those - or easier, just add a fabric border around the entire unit to carry to the size you want. So if you want to use more than one block (9-patch) for your mat, you will need to cut every 4 "block into small pieces then use each of those blocks. For example, if you cut the 4 "square into four 2" squares, 9 of them (like a 9-patch block) would end as a 4.5 "square unit, if my calculation is right, if you could use 6 of these 9 - patch blocks (in a 3 x 2 grid) to set a table that was 13.5 "wide and 9" tall. It is better to remove the graph paper and see what fits and what will not. When using paper graph, you will always be * without * the 1 / 4 "seam allowance on each side of each piece of fabric though ... and add them when cutting really.
