Has it really taken so long?

Apparently, it is easier for a African-American to become president of the United States than it is to become a Disney princess. But this year, finally, is the first for each.
Princess Tiana will debut at the upcoming Disney movie "The Princess and the Frog" to invade the big screen during the last part this year. The beautiful princess doll likeness was unveiled this week at the American International Toy Loyal.
I'm not on made my Disney princess, but I was shocked it was not an African-American princess before today. I mean they are everywhere and on everything, I really have never seen an African-American? Has it really taken so long for such a progressive company that Disney to introduce a?
To be fair, it also being the first American princess at all - I had no idea how with these princesses were cosmopolitan!
Winner of five Tony-winning actress Anika Noni Rose will lend her voice to Princess Tiana in the film which is set in 1920s New Orleans. Others have lent their voices to characters in the film include Oprah Winfrey and Terrence Howard
Frames USA Today Disney says they do not adopt to meet Tiana deliberately diversity.
"It was much more about storytelling, "said Kathy Franklin, Vice - President, Global Studio Franchise Development for Disney Consumer Products. "It was not about a conscious decision to say we need an African-American princess. "
Of course, the wildly popular First Family and the application of diversity in the market will not hurt ...
Tiana could hit shelves before Obama reaches the White House but earlier incarnation was introduced in 2007 was not met favorably. Initial scenario of the film from him as a maid named "Maddy". There was an outcry that began in a role reminiscent of a slave, and apparently "Maddy" sounded too much like Mammy. So changes were made.
And finally, all the girls will be able to see in the faces of beautiful princesses pepper on each piece of merchandise imaginable.
"We did a lot of work internally to ensure that the product we were developing would speak to a wide range of mothers, "Franklin said in an article in Black Enterprise." We do not see the Princess Tiana good as just for African American girls at all. But we want girls who have not seen Disney Princesses like them to see the Princess Tiana and be very happy they have a character in our franchise that speaks to them and how they see themselves as a princess.
Of course there is the question so girls should be like princesses at all ...
