Why do we enjoy music?

I have been wondering a lot lately about how and why we enjoy music. I also hoped to find out why different people have different preferenses when it comes to what kind of music they enjoy. I have read several places that music causes activity in the brain and is also able to affect pulse and mental stability.

Why do some groups of people prefer several kinds of music and another group of people a complitely different variety of music? Does it have a social or neuroscientific answer?

Is one kind of music superior to another?

In what part of the human evolution did we begin to like music?

What purpose does it actually have to be able to like music?
