Racer Pop

Star of the NBC drama series Friday Night Lights Scott Porter temporarily leaves the football field to make a trip to the racetrack. Earlier this month, twenty seven years, Porter has made an addition to the upcoming Speed Racer film's cast. The film is a live-action adaptation of the popular series of 1960s Japanese anime of the same name. Emile Hirsch, who has been popularized through his role as Matthew Kidman in 2004's Girl Next Door, will play the brave pilot automotive and aggressive. The Wachowski brothers are set to direct the film, and Joel Silvers Silver Pictures will be the producer of the film.

Currently known as name Jason Street on Friday Night Lights, Porter will play the role of elder brother of Speed Racer, Rex Racer. However, before joining the cast of football drama series, Porter played Matthew in the off-Broadway production called Altar Boyz. He also appeared on four episodes of the Emmy award-winning soap opera, As The World Turns and ABC Ugly Betty pilot episode.

Speed Racer is not Porter's first big screen together. He played the role Pop! Member Colin Thompson in the romantic comedy Music & Lyrics, starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore in 2007 and in the same year, appeared in the Descent thriller, playing a small role. Downhill starred Rosario Dawson and The 4400's Chad Faust. Porter also recently signed a new film called Prom Night.

Speed Racer's cast also includes Christina Ricci as Trixie, Speed girlfriend, Matthew Fox as Racer X, Speed's rival, John Goodman as Pops Racer, Speed's father, Susan Sarandon as Mom Racer, Speed's mother and Paulie Litt as Spritle, younger brother Speed. Other elements of the animated series that have been adapted in the film are pet chimpanzee Speed, Chim Chim, and his primary race vehicle, Mach 5.

The movie has started Shooting in Berlin and is ready to be released May 9, 2008.
