When a baby sling said large and medium size which is the reference?

I am creating my baby registry in Burlington Coat Factory and I love these 2 baby slings, but they are medium and large. Is the size of reference for the baby or mother?

Mom, try before you enter a specific size. If you have not gained too much weight while you were pregnant, the width of the rib cage must remain the same after childbirth. The size charts on the back of the pack are not so great, so the list may say that according to your measurements you are a medium, but much would best fit.
