when I play ps3 on my Sony TV, the size of the screen keeps switching between fit and smart widescreen?

when I play ps3 on my Sony TV, the size of the screen keeps switching between adjustment and smart widescreen? I want to keep it on the big screen, but it will automatically adjust for smart, which makes the screen is too zoomed in. Does one know how to solve this problem? My TV Sony is a 4-year-old who says trinitron on it. isn't it isn't hd and plasma. its 32 inches. responses? please? How can I change the resolution, etc.?

First set the PS3 to the standard 4 / 3 instead of 16 / 9. second set of your resolutions on the PS3 to 480i. third parties using your remote TV or TV button to keep the aspect ration as you want. upconverting fourth turn for videos and games, respectively.
