Football or soccer is probably the most popular sport on which to have a spread bet and there are a large number of Paris available on the market long-term (full season) and individual matches.

Totals

There are a wide range of paris total available in football, as the goals, corners and numbers of jerseys - all of them work in much the same way. Remember though, that the Extra time does not count for these markets.

Objectives

Based on the total number of goals predicted for this game. May be quoted as something like "Manchester United V Chelsea from 2.7 to 3.0". Issues are usually taken in tenths of a goal, So in this example, if you sell down to 2.7 with a 10 pounds (100 pounds per goal entirely), and four goals were scored, you lose 4.0 to 2.7 = 1.3 x £ 10 stake = 10 x 130 pounds.

Corners

Based on the total number of accumulated turns both sides in a game. A typical quote on the corners in a Premiership match could be 11.5 to 12.5.

Shirt Numbers

A prediction on the total number of jerseys for all the scorers in a match. If Manchester United were 1-1 against Chelsea with Drogba (shirt number 14) and van Nistelrooy (shirt number 10) scoring the goals, then the number of shirts may add up to 24. A typical quote on the shirts can be anything Nationwide 24-28 in a game or abroad until, say, 45-49 for a Premiership game could be a player wearing jersey No. 40.

Reservations

This market works the same way as totals, although in this case, a number of points are awarded for yellow and red. Ten points are awarded for each yellow card and 25 points for every Red up to a maximum of 35 points per player, so if a player receives a red card after receiving a second yellow card, it will be deemed to have been shown a yellow card and red card (35 points). Any card shown to overtime or full time after the whistle was blown does not count.

Hotshots

It is a popular market where the company chooses the spread of four or five players in a league (or a game) and give a price based on 25 points with the goal of every player named. Points are also granted (usually between 8 to 12), if any of them fail to take part.

Multi-Corners

The majority of companies offer spread prediction for the number of first half corners multiplied by second half corners.

Team Performance

Especially popular in games televised live this market offers a variety of components including corners, bookings, goals and clean sheets. The points allocated may differ between companies scattered, but may be something similar to:

• Win: 15 points
• Draw: 5 points
• Goal: 10 points
• Woodwork (Must rebound into play): 5 points
• Corner: 3 points
• Clean Sheet: 5 points
• Yellow Card: -5 points
• Red Card: -15 points

Time Markets

There are many markets in terms of timed events, such as the 1st goal, 2nd goal last goal, 1 goal at home, 1st away goal, 1 corner and 1 yellow card. These quotes are based within minutes. In the case of 1 markets, where there is no 1st goal or 1st reservation, then the event is deemed to have occurred at 90 minutes. The reverse is true for markets last - If the event does not occur, then it is deemed to have occurred at 0 minutes. See here for a working example of a 1st goal bet.

The long term paris

Another type of popular spread betting football provides an excellent alternative to fixed-odds paris. Many people find their favorite team at the beginning of the season to win the championship. With the spread of paris, you can for or against a team individual based on the number of points you think they will get.
