Dinosaur Facts
Dinosaurs have always delighted people and held them spell bound by their variety of species of small dinosaurs huge and gigantic. They are no more in existence, but their presence is still felt in museums, books and movies. The first dinosaurs appeared on this earth about 230 million years and have demonstrated their existence to complete 160 million years. Some dinosaurs were herbivorous while some were carnivores.
The dinosaurs existed in Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. The late Triassic period witnessed some kinds of dinosaurs Coeophysis as with double-hinged jaw and lower small sharp teeth showing its carnivorous nature. Whoever came in the category of herbivores was the Plateosaurus nine meters by four meters long and tall body weighing about 4 tons and there were others like melanorosaurs, Anchisaur, prosauropod and early sauropod
But the end of this period was marked by mass extinction, about 95% of species disappeared from this earth and with this went the early dinosaurs. The period from the late Triassic period marked the beginning of the "age of dinosaurs" which further developed in the Jurassic period. The Jurassic Period lasted for 30 million years when the reptiles were the dominant figures and if that age is known as "the age of dinosaurs." Dinosaurs existed during this period were different from those of other periods.
Dinosaurs evolved during this period. The largest herbivorous and carnivorous dinosaurs, occurred during Jurassic period. The biggest meat eater of the Jurassic Allosaurus was best known as the lizard different. It was about 40 feet long and many dinosaurs of this period were afraid of him. Another colossal size was a herbivorous dinosaur known as Apatosaurus but formerly known as Brontosaurus. It measured between 70 to 90 feet but his head was too small compared to the huge body. It is really shocking to know that on one side, we had huge dinosaurs, but on the other side of their existence the smallest dinosaur the size of a chicken called Compsognathus. The dinosaurs of different features and characteristics have been found in this period.
Even at the beginning years known bird Archeoptyx had characteristics similar to a dinosaur. The dinosaur Diplodocus was 90 feet long and was one terrestrial animals longer. The long-necked dinosaur Mamenchisaurus about 46 feet was the distinctive feature that is different from other dinosaurs. Stegosaurus existed in the period from the late Jurassic was a gargantuan body of three tons, but the brain the size of walnuts.
The third period was the period Cretaceous when the dinosaurs growth has been fully developed. This was the time when some unique dinosaurs were here on earth. Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus rex, Parasaurolophus, Carnotaurus Anatosaurus, Monoclonius, Tarbosaurus Gallimimus Corythosaurus, Albertosaurus, there were dinosaurs of the Cretaceous period. They were the one that came with more features and some distinct characteristics that distinguish outstanding from those of another period. But with the end of this period ended the existence of dinosaurs from the earth altogether.
