Wondering if it's really important to provide training to prevent sexual harassment to managers in your company? A better question ask is whether your organization can afford the potential costs of not providing such training. Sexual harassment in the workplace takes many forms and is not always obvious, especially for those who are not properly trained on this type of harassment prevention.

Top 4 Reasons Managers need training on harassment prevention

1. Risk Management - No organization is too small or too large to respond to accusations of sexual harassment, and the emergence of these types of claims is certainly not declining. In fact, quite the opposite is true. During fiscal 2008 alone, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) received almost 14,000 by mid - Labor charges of sexual harassment. During the same time, the agency resolved nearly 12,000 charges, resulting in the recovery of more 47 million dollars for aggrieved employees. These statistics are staggering, and they do not even paint a complete picture of the problem, that rewards litigation arising beyond EEOC are not included in the figures.

Employers Liability - Keep in mind that employers are responsible for the actions of their employees and other agents who represent them, regardless of whether or not the behaviors are contrary stated policy or if the employer was aware of inappropriate behavior. The fact that your company policy states that harassment is no permit is not a sufficient defense. As an entrepreneur, you are responsible for creating a culture that is free from harassment, and that must begin by ensuring that managers really understand - and act on - their responsibilities in this area.

Does not intend Matter - Several business owners and company leaders mistakenly believe they need not worry about sexual harassment in the workplace because they feel that their supervisors or employees would not do anything inappropriate. This is a dangerous short-and medium-observed look at this important aspect of the plan of running a business risk, and it is an attitude that has the potential to lead allegations of harassment that are indefensible. The simple facts are (a) you do not know what others would do and (b) "intent" not to harass anyone. While some types of harassment are fairly obvious and are intentional, hostile environment harassment can be subtle and difficult to recognize - and often unintentionally.

4. Prevention is the key - take ongoing and proactive measures to prevent harassment from occurring is the best - really the only way - to reduce the liability of employers. If you want to create a workplace free of harassment sex, you should start by putting a solid plan in place to prevent the problem from developing in the first place. Any program of harassment prevention solids should include - at minimum - a zero tolerance policy that is clearly and effectively communicated to employees and a program of continuous training prevention of sexual harassment for employees who have supervisory responsibilities.

Monitoring Harassment Prevention Training is the key
Failing to train your supervisors to your organization to unnecessary risks, and for no reason. It's a simple fact that no organization can not afford to have people in supervisory positions who are not properly trained in preventing sexual harassment, or who not understand the role of risk management that they must play as members of the management team.

Anyone who manages employees must be properly trained to recognize and stop harassing conduct in the workplace and to handle claims of inappropriate behavior in a manner appropriate. Managers must know the facts about what constitutes harassment, how to recognize it and what are their responsibilities. It is much better to provide your company supervisors with the training they need to prevent the onset of problems to deal with allegations of harassment which have been badly treated after the fact.
